About Us

G&L Cattle
Company is located in Van, Texas about a mile off of Interstate 20
between Canton and Tyler. We purchased our first Longhorns in the fall
of 1993 and began a love affair with this magnificent breed of cattle.
We
were involved with horses, both Quarter and Morgan, and were
looking for a breed that we could both enjoy raising and
showing. We began showing our Longhorns in 1994 and, with
success in the show ring , we began a serious breeding program.
What started as “finding something to eat the grass”, turned
into a business that has consumed our lives. We consider
ourselves to be small breeders, maintaining about 50 mother
cows, divided between three pastures. We run a senior herd
sire, G&L Showdown, in one pasture, a junior bull, PCC
Generader, with the heifers and about 12 cows in the AI
pasture. The use of artificial insemination helps add
outside genetics to the main herd and keep our program
competitive and moving forward.

Our cattle program, for the first 10 years, was geared toward
producing superior animals that could win in the show ring with
correct conformation, eye catching color and good horn. The
“total package” Longhorn has always been our goal. In the past
few years, we have maintained our program and have added
specific horn genetics for twist and length.

To
say that we are “Hooked on Longhorns” would be an
understatement. We are blessed to be able to be living our
dream and sharing it with others. We invite you to come by the
ranch for a visit.
